While most TV manufacturers are running to the hills in fear of ‘plasma’, today Samsung has further embraced the display technology with the introduction of the 850 PAVV 50-inch plasma TV. The real story here is the set’s thickness, just 29mm (1.14-inches), but that doesn’t mean they’ve comprised on picture quality. The 850 PAVV can produce a 1920×1080 picture with a 240Hz refresh rate and includes a USB 2.0 port for viewing DivX encoded movies and probably pictures. They also claim that the TV consumes 40% less power than comparable sets, which will help offset its large sticker price. No word on a release, but also expect a 58-inch version to emerge as well.
