New Nokia 6600

Nokia announced other three new handsets, after the Finnish company unveiled last week two XpressMusic phones: Nokia 5320 and Nokia 5220. This time, the new devices run on the Symbian S40 platform and are presented by Nokia as perfect combinations between "modern functionality" and good looks, all of them having glossy appearances.

Although Nokia 6600 fold and Nokia 6600 slide have the same number in their name, their features are a bit different. Both handsets come with accelerometers that allow users to tap for commands. For example, when tapping twice on Nokia 6600 fold, its hidden external display "awakes" to reveal info like time, missed calls, incoming messages and so on. Moreover, the double tapping also allows you to reject incoming calls or silence alarms – the same works for the slide version.

The 6600 fold is, as its name shows it, a clamshell that measures 87.7 x 44 x 15.9 millimeters (when closed) and weighs 110 grams. The handset packs a 2.13 inch OLED internal display with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels, a hidden 128 x 160 pixel external display, a 2 Megapixel camera with double LED flash, 8x zoom and video recording, quad-band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and dual-band WCDMA (850 / 2100 MHz) connectivity, music player, stereo FM radio, XHTML browser, Bluetooth, microUSB and microSD card support for up to 4GB. Nokia 6600 fold will be available in two colors (mysterious black and sophisticated purple), for a retail price of 275 Euro or about $430.

Nokia 6600 slide is, obviously, a slider that has the same weight as the fold version (110 grams), but measures 93 x 45 x 14 millimeters. The phone is one of the smallest from Nokia to come in this form factor and it has some pretty nice features like: a 3.2 Megapixel camera with auto focus, double flash and video recording, a 2.2 inch display with 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors, Nokia Maps, Bluetooth, microUSB, the same quad-band GSM and dual-band WCDMA connectivity as the 6600 fold, the same music player and FM radio, plus the same microSD card support for up to 4GB. Nokia 6600 slide will be available only in black, for a retail price of 250 Euro (around $390).

Nokia 3600 slide is the second new slider announced by the company. It measures 97.8 x 47.2 x 14.5 millimeters, weighs 97.8 grams and it only comes with quad-band GSM connectivity ( 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with EDGE. However, the rest of its features are quite nice, including background noise cancellation (the first Nokia phone to have this feature), a 3.2 Megapixel camera with double LED flash, auto focus and video recording, a 2.2 inch screen with 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors, Nokia Maps, music player, FM radio with RDS, TV-out, Bluetooth, Opera Mini browser and microSD card support for up to 4GB of extra memory. Nokia 3600 slide will be available for 175 Euro (about $275) in two color versions: wine and charcoal.

All three new Nokia handsets will hit the market in the third quarter of 2008. Their announced prices exclude taxes and subsidies, so users will actually get to buy them for more or even for less, depending on the area.
